Chapter 20
"Aahâ¦" My jaw was down to the ground. I glared at the open gates, then at the forest, then at my hands, then at the open gates again. Being shocked was an understatement after seeing what just happened. "W⦠wha⦠what the hell?! How!? How the fuck did it open now?!"
I was beside myself, fuming and fussing and pacing right and left in front of the open gates frantically. I couldn't understand how the huge metal doors opened or how I was able to open it now so easily when it wouldn't even budge when I tried it the first time. I was becoming mad about the fact I didn't try to open it earlier. But the most unexplainable thing was, why was I still standing outside and not gone through it to see what was on the other side yet?
The truth was, the tunnel was giving out a very eerie vibe, dangerous even. It was poorly lit too. I could see about thirty feet into it at best, with some more dim light peeking further down the tunnel. It made my gut sink to my knees.
Shit, crap, fuck⦠What do I do? I paced right and left a few times again, hesitant to step into the creepy tunnel. Considering I had wanted to leave this place so badly all this time, I found it strange that I was so hesitant about entering it. Maybe because the dark tunnel in front of me didn't look anything like an exit but more like an entrance to a more dangerous zone. Well⦠eer⦠maybe I should go back and eat first? I could come back tomorrow, fully rested⦠just in case. But what if the gates close by tomorrow and I can't open it again? But⦠it could be a trap too. Tch⦠This is⦠Baah! Screw it!
I gripped both of my shields tighter, ready to fight whatever I found on the other side and stepped through the huge gates into the dimly lit tunnel. As soon as I did that, the gate hinges creaked, and the metal doors closed behind me with a loud bang.
"Hah? What? No shit! Hey, humph⦠Aargh⦠Come⦠on⦠Ugh⦠Fuuuck!" I punched the closed gates from the inside, slamming them with my shield after I couldn't open them. "God, damn it! I knew it was a trap. For crying out loud. Tchâ¦â
I tried to open the gates again, but it was just like the first time I tried; it wouldn't budge.
"Sigh⦠That's just great, humphâ¦" I frowned, throwing a glare at the huge, metal double-sided doors. I couldn't do much now that I was inside the tunnel, so the only thing to do was to go forward.
The tunnel was dark, with stone floors and walls on each side. A lamp was present on one side of the wall every thirty feet or so. The lamp was square-shaped and was basically built into the wall. It must've been made out of very poor glass because it emitted a very faint light.
